Flat removals in Harrow

Flats across HA1 to HA3 — interwar mansion blocks, terrace conversions, and the newer apartments near the stations.

Harrow's flats cluster near the stations, and they fall into three kinds that behave differently enough to be worth separating.

Mansion blocks

Interwar, solidly built, wide communal stairs, generous rooms. The lift is the variable: many were retrofitted and sized for people rather than furniture, so the useful question is not whether the block has one but whether a wardrobe fits in it. A tape measure at survey settles it.

Conversions

Victorian and Edwardian houses divided into flats. The original stair stays, and so does the newel post everything has to swing around.

What we ask before pricing:

  • Which floor, and whether the stair turns
  • The width at the tightest point
  • Whether the entrance is shared, and whether there is a step or a gate
  • Where a vehicle can legally stand, and for how long

Newer apartments

Loading bays, service lifts, a managing agent who wants the move booked. Physically the easiest buildings on the patch; administratively the ones that want the most notice.

Shared space

Halls, stairs and lifts belong to the whole building. Protection goes on, the route stays passable, and the job ends without your neighbours having had to think about it.

Flat move questions

01What is the first question?

The floor, and whether there is a lift that actually takes furniture. Everything else follows from those two answers.

02Are mansion blocks hard work?

Not usually. Wide stairs, generous rooms, and a lift that may have been fitted decades after the building and sized for people. That last one is a measurement, not a guess.

03What about conversions?

A house cut into flats keeps its original stair, its turn and its half-landing. We measure the tightest point before pricing rather than after.

04Do newer blocks have rules?

Frequently — a loading bay to book, a service lift to reserve, occasionally proof of insurance first. Start a fortnight out, not the week of.

05Is communal protection included?

Yes. Your neighbours did not agree to your move; the edges get protection and the route stays passable.
